Return to Resources to help us rethink the current crisis

The following electronic communication was sent on Saturday, 27 June 2020 via hubNashville to the Metro Nashville Department of Health:

Dear Madam or Sir:

Greetings, my name is Irucka Embry and I am writing with regards to the story entitled: “Nashville moves to mandate face coverings in bid to slow COVID–19 spike” By Yihyun Jeong in the Tennessean on 27 June 2020 (https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/politics/2020/06/26/nashville-require-face-masks-public-coroanvirus-spreads/3266522001/). I have some questions and concerns that I am laying out in this brief communication.

Like you, I share the same goal for Nashville and greater Davidson County: A healthy and thriving community.

1) I want to first direct you to this short, 15–minute video provided by Peggy Hall (https://youtu.be/OUUOq1ksiQQ) that proves that there is absolutely no scientific evidence referenced by the United States Centers for Disease Control (CDC) regarding healthy and/or “asymptomatic” people wearing facial masks to prevent illness and/or disease.

2) I want to provide you with this article entitled “Universal Masking in Hospitals in the Covid–19 Era” by By Michael Klompas, M.D., M.P.H., Charles A. Morris, M.D., M.P.H., Julia Sinclair, M.B.A., Madelyn Pearson, D.N.P., R.N., and Erica S. Shenoy, M.D., Ph.D. dated May 21, 2020 from the New England Journal of Medicine (https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp2006372). In that article's second paragraph, it states “wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from infection.”

3) Will you please provide the general public with irrefutable, peer–reviewed scientific research articles published in a reputable medical journal that conclusively shows that face masks for healthy or “asymptomatic” individuals prevents the spread of illness & does not cause damage to an individual's respiratory system?

4) Will you please explain how you can mandate that residents possibly place themselves at “Immediate danger to life and health” by dropping oxygen levels below 19.5%, which is the level established by OSHA that lower than that concentration causes “immediate threat to life and health with irreversible adverse effects” as stated in California Code of Regulations, Title 8, Section 5144 regarding “Respiratory Conditions at Work”?

I am enclosing three articles with regards to the use of face masks and oxygen reduction:

Sincerely,
